We all know these girls- the "cool girls". In fact, Ro has been one of them. She was the kind of girl who hated "that kind of girl" because of her own internalized misogyny and lack of life experience. Ro just wanted to let the world know that girl-on-girl hate is not cool, and furthermore, it is not "hate" to call it out... just like we're doing in this song. Be kind to your girls, fellas, and be kind to your fellow girls, ladies. Oppression in the form of sexism will not end no matter how many dude friends you have (or think you have). Sure, we all have friends of all different genders(just in case any dudes are somehow upset by this. We have plenty of dude friends), but trying to impress men by trying hard to be "like them" or hating on other women is not the way to make friends- really, if someone is only your friend because they indulge in harmful/shitty aspects of your personality, what kind of FRIEND are they? Do you really wanna hang with the kind of dude who hates women? Maybe you should work on your self-esteem instead of telling other girls how to dress because a girl bullied you in school once. Sigh... In short, we'd rather not be one of the "cool" girls. We don't need anyone to think we're cool. We'd rather just be ourselves. Love, peace, and tofu grease. Follow our lead or get out of the way. ;)
lyrics
The boys will still hate me and you,
no matter what we ever do,
parka or your birthday suit,
platform heels or combat boots,
They'll still think you're PROPERTY
and that's the sick reality,
But "cool girl" knows just what to do,
cool girl knows better than you,
fuck your experience, she's got "friends"!
Watch her personality bend!
You're what's wrong with every scene
calling other girls "unclean",
say "every other girl's a SLUT,
look at me, I'm covered up!"
but cool girl says the boys are right,
she hangs with them EVERY night
Maybe if she talks enough,
the boys will think that she's real tough,
yeah, all the boys can't get enough!
...of all the girls they'll never fuck!
